Negroni is a classic Italian cocktail made from equal parts of gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth.
History of Negroni
The Italian folk legend mentions the cocktail originating in 1919 and made popular by Count Camillo Negroni, who was a known traveler across the USA.
Count Camillo Negroni’s favourite drink was Americano (consisting of Campari, sweet vermouth, and soda water) which he ordered in one of the bars in Florence but asked for a stronger version of it.
The bartender substituted the soda water with gin to increase the drink’s strength, and that’s how a modern Negroni was created.
