Fallen Leaves is a calvados based cocktail with added smoothness of sweet and dry vermouths. It gets it’s name from the colour of the cocktail which is similar to the colour of fallen leaves during the fall (autumn) season of the year.
History of Fallen Leaves
Fallen Leaves cocktail was invented by a famous German bartender and mixologist Charles Schumann in Munich, Germany.
Charles Schumann is one of the most known people in the bar industry owning Schumann’s Bar and having written multiple books with cocktail recipes.
Fallen Leaves cocktail is mentioned in his book American Bar: The Artistry of Mixing Drinks that was published in 1982.
Fallen Leaves
Ingredients
- 3/4 oz Calvados
- 1 dash Brandy
- 3/4 oz Sweet vermouth
- 1/4 oz Dry vermouth
- 1 Lemon twist (garnish)
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to a cocktail mixing glass filled with ice
- Stir until well chilled (20-25 full turns)
- Strain into a chilled glass
- Garnish with orange peel (optional)
